Organization Mission
The mission of the YWCA of the Harbor Area and South Bay is to foster the economic self-sufficiency and emotional and physical well-being of women and girls in a world of peace, racial justice, dignity, freedom and equality for all.
About YWCA of the Harbor Area and South Bay
Located in the historic Julia Morgan building on 9th Street in San Pedro, the YWCA of the Harbor and South Bay has been serving the communities of San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Lomita, Palos Verdes Peninsula and parts of Carson for almost 90 years. Recently our service area has expanded to include Long Beach and the greater South Bay including Torrance.
The YWCA USA is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The YWCA will thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism, wherever it exists, and by any means necessary.
